DOCTRINE OF THE TRINITY
Looking for information on the doctrine of the
Trinity? We have Biblical evidence for the Trinity doctrine being true
and answers for those who say the Trinity is false. The Trinity
Doctrine is the One God revealed through three distinct Persons as the
Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit. Below will be
some Biblical information on explaining the Trinity in simple terms and
following that will be various articles dealing with the doctrine of the
Trinity.
Explaining the Trinity
1.
The Bible
teaches that there is only one God. (Isaiah 43:10, Isaiah 44:6-8, Isaiah
45:22)
2.
The Bibles
teaches that there is one who is called the Father and is identified as
being God. (1 Peter 1:2)
3.
The Bible
teaches that there is one who is called Jesus and is identified as being
God. (John 1:1-3&14-18, John 20:28-29, 1 John 1:1-4&5:20, Philippians
2:5-8, Revelation 1:17-18, Revelation 22:12-20)
4.
The Bible
teaches that there is one who is called the Holy Spirit and is
identified as being God. (John 14:16-17, John 15:26, John 16:7-15, Acts
5:3-4, Acts 13:2, 1 Corinthians 12:4-18, Hebrews 9:14, Hebrews 10:15-18)
There are things in life that are triune in nature
but one. For example: An egg is one but with three
distinctions. You have the yoke, the white, and the shell, but
all three composite the one egg. Another example: A piece
of fruit such as the peach has three components. A peach has
the outer layer (the skin), the inner layer (the juicy stuff known as
the meat), and the core. All three components composite the one
peach.
Other things that we have in our everyday
lives that are triune is water. Water is one substance that can
be liquid, gas, and solid distinctly or all at the same. The
following quote is from the late Dr. Walter Martin: "It is
a well-known fact of chemistry that plain water, when placed in a vacuum
under 230 millimeters of gas pressure and at a temperature of 0 degrees
Centigrade, solidifies into ice at the bottom of the container, remains
liquid in the center and vaporizes at the top! At a given instant the
same water is both solid, liquid and gas, yet all three are
manifestations of the same basic substance or nature: H2O - hydrogen:
two parts; oxygen: one. If one of the simplest of all created
substances can be three in manifested form and yet remain one in nature,
then the Creator of that substance can surely be Father, Son and Holy
Spirit - three Persons and one Nature - without any violation of logic
or reason whatever if He so wills."
If an egg, a peach, and
water can have three distinct things and all be one at the same time,
than the Almighty should have no problem. The word Trinity is way
of explaining the belief in one God revealed through three distinct
persons. Some people get all hung up on the issue of the Bible
teaching there is only one God. No where does the Bible state God
is only one person, but it does say God is one in Deuteronomy 6:4.
The word for one there is the Hebrew word Echad, which means a
composite unity. For examples of this consider Genesis 1:5,
Genesis 2:24, Ezra 2:64, Ezekiel 37:17 where the same Hebrew word Echad
is used and means one in unity, not in number!
The Bible
teaches there is one Church but many members and there is no problems
with understanding this, yet when it comes to God some seem to have
problems.
Saved?
What We Believe As Baptists:
We
have been asked many times concerning the doctrine and beliefs of our
Church. Of course the simplest statement of faith that we could make is
this: "We believe the whole
Bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation There
are five words that fairly set forth what we believe. Those five words
are: Baptist,
Fundamental, Premillennial,
Missionary, and
Independent.
We Are
Baptist By
this we mean that we hold to the historic beliefs and practices which
have prevailed among Baptists from the time of Jesus. In every period of
time, since Christ established His church during His earthly ministry,
there have been churches who were Baptist in faith and practice.. They
did not always wear the name Baptist, but they believed and practiced
Baptist doctrine, which is none other than Bible doctrine.
Baptists did not come out of the Reformation under Martin Luther, for
they were never a part of the Catholic Church. In fact Baptists were on
the scene long before the Catholic Church ever came into existence. For
those who are interested in studying more on this subject we highly
recommend The Trail of Blood, by J.M. Carroll. We do
not believe in a so-called "
We Are
Fundamental By
this we mean, that we accept the so-called fundamentals of the faith as
opposed to modernism which denies the fundamentals of the faith. We
believe in the verbal inspiration of the Scriptures, the Genesis account
of the creation, the Virgin Birth of Christ, His sinless life, His blood
atonement, His glorious bodily resurrection, His ascension, and His
second coming. When
we say that we are fundamental, we do not mean that this is all that we
believe; because we do believe every doctrine and truth in the Word of
God without any reservation. No Church or Christian has any right to
single out any doctrine of the Word of God and say that it is
non-essential. If any of it was non-essential, then God would not have
wasted the space by putting it in the Bible.
We Are
Premillennial We
believe that Jesus Christ is coming back before the When
Christ shall come in the air, "the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain (the living Christians) shall
be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the lord in the
air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
(I Thessalonians 4:16-17). Then the Anti-Christ will be manifested here
upon the earth and the seven years of tribulation shall begin. At the
end of the seven years of tribulation, the Lord will return with His
saints and utterly defeat the armies of the Anti-Christ. Satan will be
bound and cast into the bottomless pit, and then the Lord will establish
his kingdom here on earth and reign for a thousand years. (See
Revelation 19-21).
We Are
Missionary Every
true new It is
not enough to be missionary in name, but we must be missionary in
practice. This means that we should pray for missions, and support
missions with the finances that God has placed in our hand. We receive a
mission offering every week. We practice Faith Promise We
support sound Bible believing missionaries. Instead of sending the money
to some denominational headquarters where 80% or 90% of it is used up in
administration costs, we send it direct to the missionary, through their
home church. This way he gets 100% of the money and not just 10 % or
20%. We have recently raised the monthly support for our missionaries,
and by God’s grace we intend to continue to raise it.
We Are
Independent We are
not independent to do as we please, but we are
independent and
unaffiliated, in order that we might do as God pleases. God
forbid that we should ever want to be independent from God. We are not
"affiliated with" nor do we "belong to" any association or convention.
Jesus established the local New Testament Church, and we do not believe
that He established any convention or association to lord it over the
churches. It is our contention that a true church cannot scripturally
join anything nor become affiliated with any outside religious
organization.
Churches may work together in the work of Christ, but should beware of
entangling alliances which bring them under the domination of boards and
denominational secretaries. Conventions, associations, and other like
denominational organizations are usually started by men of good faith,
but they enter into such organizations without one verse of Scriptural
authority. Eventually these extra-Scriptural organizations become the
citadels of compromise and doctrinal laxness, with an insatiable desire
to dominate and lord it over the churches. During
the period of time covered in the book of Acts the greatest evangelistic
missionary effort in the history of Christianity may be seen. In those
days travel was slow, radio, television, and even the printing press was
unheard of, yet the gospel spread like a flame. In no other period of
Church history was so much done by so few. In 30 short years greater
progress was made than in any other period of history, in establishing
churches and carrying out the Great Commission. Yet, there was no
convention, association, or outside the church denominational
organization. The plan used in the book of Acts worked, and it is
working today among churches who are trying to use it. It is
our desire to contend for the faith without being contentious. We can
disagree without being disagreeable. We can stand for the faith without
kicking. We do rejoice when the gospel is preached and when souls are
saved, even though we might not agree completely with the method that is
used. Criticism of another man’s method does not constitute obedience to
Christ’s command to carry the gospel to the ends of the earth. We must
not only believe in the right way, but we must demonstrate the right
way. The church of the living God does not have time for petty arguments, foolish and unlearned questions and the like. This is not the time for factions, frictions, and foolish divisions. This is the time for action. We are approaching the zero hour when we shall soon face Christ. Let us gird up the loins of our mind, put on the whole armor of God and press forward in the battle for Christ.
Fifty Things That You Should Know About Tongues and Healing..... 1. The Jews , as a nation , began with signs ( Rom 4:11; Exo. 4:8, 9,17,28,30;7:3; 8:23,10:1-2; 13:9; 31:13,17; Deu 4:34; 6:22). 2. The Old Testament Jews lived by sings ( Deu 11:18; Jos 4:6; 1 Sam 10:7; 2 Kgs19:29; Isa 7:14; 38:7,22; Ezk 4:3; 20:12,20 ). 3. The Jews Demanded signs from the Lord Jesus Christ (Mat 12:38; 16:1-4; 24:3; Jhn2:18; 6:30). 4. The Jews require a sigh, not the Gentiles (1 Cor.1: 22; Jhn.4:48). 5. According to the Lord Jesus Christ, the gifts of tongues and healing are signs (Mar. 16: 16-20). 6.These signs were for the purpose of confirming the word of God (Acts 14:3; Heb.2:3-4) 7.These signs are spoken of in the past tense in 2 Corinthians 12:12 and in Hebrews 2:3-4, not in the present or future tense. 8. Those who still look for signs and wonders today are on dangerous ground for the Antichrist will deceive the world with signs and wonders (Rev.13:13-14; 2 Ths.2:8-12). 9.The Lord Jesus Christ said that an evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign (Mat.12:39). 10.The Bible speaks of various spiritual gifts to believers, but tongues and healing are never emphasized more than the other gifts (1Cor.12:4-11). 11. The gifts of tongues and healing were not considered the best gifts (1Cor.12:28- 31). 12.The gift of healing was a sign ( Mar. 16:17-18; Exo 4:6-8; 2 Kgs 20:8-9) 13. It is not God’s will for all Christians to be healed ( 2 Cor. 12:5-10). 14. The apostle Paul could not heal himself (2 Cor. 12:5-10). 15. Near the end of his ministry, Paul could not heal Trophimus (2 Tim. 4: 20). 16. Instead of helaing Timothy, Paul gave him medical advice (1 Tim. 5: 23).. 17. Contrary to the modern faith healers, "Love Gifts" and “ faith Offerings" were not a part of the healing ministries of the disciples (Mat. 10:8-9). 18. A Christian who hasn’t confessed his sins and repented of them has no business expecting God to heal him of anything (Psa. 6:1-4; 41:4; 2 Chr. 7:14; Hos 5:10-13;1 Cor 11:29-32; Jas 5:14-16; 1 Jhn 1:7-10). 19. If modern faith healers really have the gift of healing , then they should prove their ministry by visiting hospitals and nursing homes and healing the sick, rather than writing books, holding healing meetings, and begging for money on television (2 Tim. 4:5; Mat 10:8-16; 1 Tim 6.5-10). 20. Satan has the power to heal and this will cause millions to be led astray in the coming Tribulation Period (Rev 13: 1-4, 12). 21. The gift of tongues was given as a sign ( Mar. 16:17; 1 Cor 14:22 ). 22. The gift of tongues was the supernatural ability of some Christians to speak in foreign languages in the presence of unbelieving Jews (Acts 2:7-11). 23. God has never caused or commanded Christians to speak in unknown tongues (Mar.16:17; Acts 2: 4; 1 Cor. 12:10; 1 Cor. 14 ). 24. The Bible never says once that tongues is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. 25. There is no baptism of the Holy Ghost in 1 Corinthians. 14. 26. Paul said that all true Christians were baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Ghost (1 Cor. 12:13 ), and all true Christians were sealed with the Holy Ghost until the day of redemption (Eph. 4:30 ), but all Christians did not speak in tongues (1 Cor 12: 29-31). 27. The Bible never says that the baptism of the Holy Ghost is a second Christian experience or blessing. 28. The Baptism of fire is the condemnation of the wicked in Hell (Mat. 3:11-12), no being "on fire for the Lord". 29. Acts 2:3 speaks of "cloven Tonues LIKE AS of fire, " but the Book of Acts says nothing at all about tongues of fire or a baptism of fire. 30. If a person does not have the spirit of Christ, he has no business waiting for the baptism of the Holy Ghost, because he doesn’t even belong to Christ (Rom. 8:9). 31. Pentecost was never a religious movement, or a religious experience. It was a Jewish feast day which always occurred fifty days after the Passover (Lev.23:15-22). 32. Jesus said that when the Holy Ghost came He (the Holy Ghost) would not speak of Himself, because He would glorify Christ (Jhn. 16: 13-14). 33. No Christian in the Bible is ever told to pray, preach, sing, or praise God in tongues. 34. The disciples received the Holy Ghost in John 20:22, but they did not speak in tongues when this happened. 35. The filling of the Spirit in Acts 4:31 and Eph 5:18-20 does not include speaking in tongues. 36. When speaking of spiritual gifts in Ephesians 4: 8-12, Paul does not mention tongues. 37. There were only three cases in the Book of Acts where people spoke in tongues (not unknown tongues), and these tongues were a sign to the Jews each time, because the Jews require a sign (Acts 2:1-11; 10: 44-46; 19: 6-8; 1 Cor. 1:22 ; 14: 22). 38. The former and latter rain of Joel 2 has nothing to do with Acts 2 or the modern day Charismatic Movement, because the rain of Joel 2 is literal wet rain from the sky in Israel (Joel 2: 1-31). 39. Tongues are not even mentioned in the list of spiritual gifts in Romans 12: 6-8. 40. Although tongues (not unknown tongues) were permitted in 1 Corinthians 14 (because there was a Jewish synagogue in Corinth – Acts 18: 1-4), they were not encouraged because tongues did not edify the church (I Cor. 14: 4-5, 26). 41. It is better to speak five words clearly than ten thousand with an unknown tongue (1 Cor. 14: 19). 42. No more than three people were allowed to speak in tongues in the church assembly, and then only one could speak at a time (1 Cor. 14:27). 43. No one was permitted to speak in tongues in the church without an interpreter (1Cor. 14:27-28). 44. Women were not allowed to speak in tongues in the church (1 Cor. 14:34-35). 45. Those who did speak in tongues (foreign languages) had power over their own spirit (1 Cor. 14:32). 46. A religious man doesn't bridle his tongue is deceived and he has a vain religion (Jas. 1:26). 47. Many "seducing spirits" are in the world and it is every Christian's duty to "try" these spirits (1 Tim. 4:1; 1 Jhn. 4:1; Rev. 2:2). 48. The word of God is the standard by which we are to judge all doctrines (Isa.8:20; 2 Tim. 3:16-17). 49. He that is spiritual judges all things (1 Cor. 2:15). 50. Teaching the Scriptural Truth about signs, healing, and tongues is not a matter of being mean, prejudiced, or intolerant. It is simply a matter of obeying the command to RIGHTLY DIVIDE God's word (2 Tim. 2:15).
SIXTY-SIX THINGS THE PENTECOSTAL CAN NOT FIND IN THE WORD OF GOD FIND THE BOOK, CHAPTER AND VERSE IN THE BIBLE THAT TEACH: 1. God commands or desires that people speak in UNKNOWN tongues. 2. There are UNKNOWN tongues spoken in Acts, Chapter 2 (Acts 2:8). 3. Paul's desire was that all would speak in UNKNOWN tongues (I Cor. 14:5). 4. Paul thanked God that he spoke with UNKNOWN tongues more than all others IN THE CHURCH (I Cor. 14:18-19). 5. Women should speak in tongues in the church assembly (I Cor. 14:34-35). 6. Angels spoke in unknown tongues. 7. Everyone should seek for the gift of tongues, rather than letting the Holy Spirit give utterance at a Point of time "dividing to every man severally as HE will" (1Cor. 12:11). 8. Speaking in tongues is the "baptism in the Holy Ghost". 9. The expression "baptism IN the Holy Ghost" occurs in the Scriptures. 10. All Christians are commanded by God to speak in tongues (I Cor. 12:30). 11. Unknown tongues are needed in an assembly where everyone speaks the same language. 12. The purpose of speaking with tongues to edify ourselves (Acts 2:4-11). 13. God commanded or desired that a man pray with an unknown tongue, although his understanding is unfruitful. 14. The baptism of I Cor. 12:13 includes speaking in tongues. 15. The object of tongues is any person other than an unbelieving Jew who needs a sign, or one thaunderwent a previous Jewish baptism by John the Baptist (Isa. 28:11; Acts 2:5-11, 10:45-47,19:1-8; 1 Cor. 1:22). 16. A man cannot be deceived when he speaks with tongues (2 Thess. 2:3), 17. The human spirit cannot be defiled (2 Cor. 7:1). 18. A man who is saved and has received the gift of the Holy Spirit cannot let doctrines of devils and deceiving spirits gain access to his mind, thereby giving place to the devil (I Tim. 4:1; Eph. 4:27). 19. The body is redeemed already, and has no law of sin in its members (Rom..7:23-25; 8:23; Phil. 3:21). 20. A man cannot be devil possessed after he is saved. 21. We are not to forbid the speaking with UNKNOWN tongues in church (I Cor 14: 39). 22. We need to Practice our tongue gift daily in order to develop it, and to avoid losing it. 23. We are to seek the gift of tongues, rather than the gift of prophecy, in the church (I Cor. 14:5, 39). 24. God doesn't mind people adding to His finished revelation (the Bible) if it is in the form of tongues, interpretation of tongues, or prophesy (Prov. 30:5-6; I Cor.14:36; 2 Tim. 4:1-4; Rev. 22:18-19). 25. Speaking five words with an unknown tongue is more profitable than speaking ten thousand words with understanding (I Cor. 14:19). 26. The gift of tongues is manifested by a babbling that no one present can understand, including the speaker (I Cor. 14:8-9). 27. A person who prays in an UNKNOWN tongue in the church assembly does not understand it himself. 28. The Holy Spirit's intercessory groanings can be uttered (Rom. 8:26) 29. More than one person at the same time may speak or pray in tongues in the church assembly (I Cor. 14:27). 30. Tongues are a sign to believers (I Cor. 14:22). 31. Unknown tongues are for the believer (I Cor. 14:22). 32. God commands or desires us to sing in unknown tongues. 33. Tongues were not to cease in and of themselves (I Cor. 13:8). 34. More than one in the church assembly is to interpret (I Cor. 14:27). 35. Tongues are not actual languages (Acts 2:6; Isa. 28:11). 36. The fullness of the Holy Spirit is manifested by the speaking with tongues. 37. Jesus spoke or prayed in tongues. 38. You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you, not to be witnesses unto the Lord Jesus Christ, but to babble in an unknown language (Acts1:8). 39. The "new tongues" that Jesus foretold His disciples would speak with were unknown tongues (Mark 16:17; Acts 2:4-6). 40. Jesus was not serious when he said that His disciples, in addition to speaking in new tongues would be able to take up serpents or to drink any poison without it harming them (Mark 16:17;18) . And so, everyone who claims the ability to speak with tongues should also be required to "drink any deadly thing." 41. The word "shall" in Mark 16:17-18 means "sometimes" or "in the process of time, shall. . ." 42. Others, in addition to the twelve apostles, spoke with tongues in Acts chapter 2 (Acts 1:24 - 2:1). 43. Tongues are to be a sign to Gentiles and to the Church (Acts 2:5- 11; Isa. 28:11). 44. We are not to "try the spirits whether they are of God", opposing any that are false (including tongues) as presumptuous against God Almighty (I John 4:1-3). 45. The devil cannot do miracles (Ex. 7:11; Dan. 11:23; 2 Thess. 2:7- 10; Rev. 13:4; 46. The Holy Spirit can manifest Himself contrary to the written revelation of the Scriptures (I Cor. 14:33) as long as the manifestation is supernatural (like tongues). 47. Besides the Old Testament saints and the original disciples, any person can receive the Holy Spirit more than once (I Cor. 12:13; Rom. 8:9; Eph. 1:13-14; 5:18). 48. A man who has received the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:9) is not receiving "another spirit" if he receives any additional spirit after his salvation (2 Cor. 11:4). 49. The prophecy about the Holy Spirit being poured out on ALL flesh has been fulfilled Joe12:27-32). 50. There are Gentiles in Acts chapter 2 who aren't proselytes (Acts 2:5-10). 51. Tongues in Acts chapter 2 were anything other than a clear declaration of "the wonderful works of God" (Acts 2:11). 52. Tongues protect us from the devil (Eph. 6:10-20) 53. Satan is not anointed, and all that is anointed is good (Ezek. 28:14). 54. Judas didn't have the signs of an apostle and wasn't "a devil" (Matt. 10:1-8; John 6:70). 55. Satan doesn't have false prophets, false apostles, and deceitful workers that transform themselves into "angels of light" and "apostles of Christ" (2 Cor. 12:13-35). 56. All that is spiritual is good, and we should open ourselves up to it (1 John 57. Experience is to be taken as a higher authority from God than the written revelation of Scripture (Isa. 8:20). 58. The Holy Spirit cannot be grieved, quenched, or lied to (1 Thess. 5:19; Eph. 4:30; Acts 5:3). 59. Forbidding to speak with tongues is blaspheming the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:29-30). 60. Paul, or anyone else in Scripture, preached a "full gospel" (I Cor. 15:1-4). 61. We, rather than the Holy Spirit, decide what spiritual gifts we get, or transferthem to others by the laying on of hands ( 1 Cor. 14:11). 62. Pentecost is an experience, rather than a Jewish Feast (Exod. 23:16; Acts 2:1;20:16). 63. Jesus and His disciples sent people to doctors or erected hospitals after unsuccessful healing attempts (Matt. 10:1; Acts 5:16). 64. The tower of Babel was a good experience (Gen. 11:1-9). 65. Unknown tongues edify the church (1Cor. 14;4, 18, 19, 23). 66. CHARITY DOES NOT REJOICE IN TRUTH (I Cor. 13:6).
